A Russell Group university required a major infrastructure upgrade programme across its 1.2m sq ft campus, including the replacement of ageing HV switchgear, integration of a new BMS platform and a full upgrade of fire detection systems across 40 buildings — all while the campus remained in full operation.
The programme was structured as a rolling three-year works package, with each academic year used to deliver works in buildings scheduled for summer closure or reduced occupation.
Aspire's HV team managed the complex switchgear replacement programme, coordinating planned outages with the university's estates team to minimise disruption to research and teaching.
A single BMS platform was integrated across all 40 buildings, providing the university with centralised monitoring and control of all building services for the first time.
The programme was delivered on time and within the agreed budget envelope. The new BMS platform has enabled the university to reduce energy consumption across the estate by 18%, contributing to its net zero carbon targets.
